The Faculty of Computer Sciences of the college provides Master in Computer Application (MCA) Programme at PG stage.
The objective of our MCA programmes is :
- To develop on insight into
- Designing Information systems for various organizations such as Banks,Companies, Hotels, Hospitals, Medical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Industries etc.
- Development of Application Software in diverse areas.
Number of Seats:Total number of Seats available is 60 only.
Eligibility Criterion for admission to MCA :
(a) Three years Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks and Mathematics as one subject at 10+2 level/Graduation level. Candidates with C.I.C., B.E., B.Tech., M.B.A.degree are also eligible for admission.
A Candidate who has appeared at the degree examination and is waiting for the result or is appearing at the degree examination may apply for admission but her candidature will be cancelled if she fails to produce necessary documentary proof of her passing degree exam at the time of interviews.
(b)BCA Degree holder will be allowed lateral entry in to the 3rd Semester course of MCA. However, final selection will be made after written test, interview and G.D.
Admission and Selection Procedure:
Students will be admitted to this course on the basis of written entrance test examination to be conducted by this college (i.e. J.D.M.C.A.C.E.T.)/Magadh University followed by Group
Discussion and Interview. Written entrance test will be conducted in accordance with all India specifications.
Merit List for admission to MCA course will be prepared on the basis of Test Score, G.D. and Interview.
Entrance Test Examination Plan (J.D.M.C.A.C.E. T.):
- (a) J.D. Women's College will conduct Entrance Examination (J.D.M.C.A.C.E.T.)on all India basis for admitting students in MCA Programme in three stages –
Stage-I Written Test 80% Weight age
Stage-II Group Discussion 10% Weight age
Stage-III Interview 10% Weight age
(b)Written test Pattern-
- (i)Examinations will be completely on objective pattern.
- (ii) All questions will have multiple choices for answers.
- (iii) Each correct answer will be awarded one marks.
- (iv) Negative marking will not be done for incorrect answer.
- (v) Calculation aids such as calculators, calculator watches, slide rules, log tables etc. will not be allowed in the examination hall.
(c) Subjects for Written Test: The written examination will consist of questions on following topics-
Part-I: Career aptitude & mental ability. (This will include some question on general
English and managerial concept also).Graduation Standard -40 questions.
Part-II: Quantitative and mathematical ability test (Question of this part will be of 10+2 standard) -40 questions.
Written Examination Total Marks- 80
Total time allowed- 120 minutes
(d) Centre for Entrance Test: Entrance Test will be conducted at J.D. Women's College, Patna Centre only.
(e)What to carry on the day of Examination:
- (i)Your Call-letter (in case of dislocation/delay you can get duplicate copy of call-letter, two days before the exam).
- (ii)One ball point pen.
- (iii)One H.B. pencil.
- (iv)One eraser
- (v)One pencil shaprner
You will be not allowed to borrow any material from your fellow examines. Mobile phone strictly prohibited in the campus of Exam centre.
(f)Arriving at the Centre: You must reach the examination venue fifteen minutes earlier than the schedule time mentioned in the admit card. Inside the college campus you will find a directory displaying the room number against the roll numbers.You should look for your roll number and occupy your allotted seat in the room ten minutes before the start of the exam.
Course Plan for MCA Programme:
(a) MCA is full time programme of three academic session consisting of Six Semesters. Each Semester will be of Six Months and the academic session starts in July and ends in June.
- (b)Course Curriculum:The primary emphasis in MCA programme is on designing information systems and development of application software in diverse areas of programming languages, database systems etc. MCA is an integrated programme the major thrust in its curriculum is on giving the students a sound background in computing, Business functions, Science &Technology and Environmental Management. Thus, the curriculum has these four streams of courses.
In computing students learn best from doing. A strong laboratory component is a part of the curriculum.The laboratory besides supplementing the theory course will also expose the students to the use of the latest software tools. Internet connectivity will also be provided to students for obtaining latest knowledge about software tools.
(c) Course Design: The MCA Programme includes:
- Twenty one theory papers, five practical papers and one project work and one seminar.
- Out of twenty one theory papers fourteen are from information technology three from Business Management, Two from Mathematics, one from Environmental Management and four are electives. Elective subjects have been organized in two groups:
(i) Information echnology
(ii) Business Management & Environmental Management
Students will have to opt for one elective paper from business management & environmental management and remaining three from information technology.

Every MCA student is required to spend the Sixth Semester in an industry/organization for a project work on development of software system under the guidance of a Supervisor. The students will have to report back to the college, periodically for a seminar on the work being done by them.
Academic Evaluation & Internal Assessment:
- Each subject of the curriculum (theory/Practical/seminar/ industri lecture/project) has got an independent entity and will be evaluated separately. The candidates will have to obtain minimum required level (40%) in each and every entity of the curriculum independently and 45% marks in aggregate.
- Each student will have to take a full time project work of approximately 5 months preferably in Industry/Business Organization.
- Students will have to appear at the assessment exam in each semester. The sessional marks will be awarded on the basis of class assessment, attendance, lab work report and over all behavior&discipline of the students. The responsibility for evaluating sessional work shall be that of the committee constituted by the Director.
- For seminars, marks will be based on presentation/ participation & Seminar report.
- The project sessional marks will be awarded on the basis of their project presentation and demonstration at the end of the semester by the expert Committee.
- The project grade in the University exam will be based on project report and viva-voce conducted by external examiners appointed by the university.
Attendance Policy:
Regular attendance (at least 75%) in all classes, seminars, symposia, discussion, field trips etc. are essential otherwise the candidate shall not be permitted to sit for the examination of that semester.
No student will be permitted to appear ay any semester examination unless she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance as per existing university.
Carry Over Examination:
(a) An examinee who does not appear at any semester due to personal reasons or does not clear any paper (s)in any semester due to some unavoidable reason (s) or fails in any such paper (s) will be allowed to appear in subsequent examination (s) in such paper (s) as a carry over examinee as per examination rules and meanwhile she will be allowed to join the next semester. However, an examinee must clear all papers in each semester before the final examination.
(b) An examinee can normally avail herself of three chances to clear any paper/semester within two years of the final semester examination of the examinee's original batch.
(c) An examinee who qualifies in all papers (minimum required marks 40%) but fails to obtain required aggregate (45% marks) in any semester shall have to improve the percentage of marks by re-apperaing at anyone or more paper (s) of the concerned semester in the next two subsequent semesters.
Conduct of Examination:
(a) The examination shall be conducted by the Magadh university which shall also finalise the date of examination, centre of examination and necessary fee for its conduct.
(b) In order to pass MCA final examination a candidate must have passed MCA semster I, II, III, IV, V, VI examinations separately with not less than 45% marks in aggregate otherwise, candidates shall be deemed to have failed.

- The fee deposited at the time of admission will not be refunded in any case.
- Any candidate who wishes to leave the programme any time after taking admission will have to deposit entire course fee, otherwise necessary formalities for leaving the college will not becompleted.
